Riding high on critical acclaim for the premiere of its latest film “Beautiful Boy”, Goldrush Entertainment is completing post-production on their next feature film “Carjacked”. A fast paced thriller, the story revolves around a single mother’s (Maria Bello) desperate attempt to save herself and her young son (Connor Hill) when they are carjacked by a ruthless bank robber (Stephen Dorff).
When asked what initially attracted him to the story, Eric Gozlan, President and CEO of Goldrush Entertainment replied:
“We read and review many scripts over the course of the year trying to find stories that resonate. The fact that the hero in Carjacked is a woman thrust into a situation that forces her to become stronger really impressed us.”
Lawrence Turman, author of the book “So You Want to Be a Producer”, defines the main requirements of Producing as being able to take a vision and turn it into reality while “dodging a thousand bullets.” Mr. Gozlan concurs.
“A producer has to be adept at problem-solving while keeping everyone happy. Unexpected events and problems often arise during production - the trick is knowing how to deal with the issues that arise. You may be able to troubleshoot but knowing how to deal with the various personalities you find on and off set is a whole different ball game.“
How does he handle cast and crew during the various stages of production? Mr. Gozlan feels that every person in the process is an essential piece of the puzzle - each one brings their own unique abilities on and off the set. He feels that once you’ve made your choice you have to have the confidence that the people you’ve hired will do what they know how to do to the best of their abilities. He is “a strong believer in giving people room to shine.”
Fresh off delivering an incredibly moving performance in “Beautiful Boy”, Maria Bello returns to Goldrush taking on the role of desperate mother in Carjacked while Stephen Dorff, who’s recent appearance in Sofia Coppola’s film “Somewhere” gained him critical acclaim, brings new found intensity to the role of Roy, the carjacker.
While “Beautiful Boy” is a drama focusing on the fallout faced by the parents of a shooter in a college campus mass killing and “Carjacked” is a highly suspenseful thriller, Mr. Gozlan admits that both films were born out of a desire to make high quality films.
Goldrush Entertainment is a Montreal based company making a name for itself as a prolific production company. When asked what he envisioned for the company over the next 2 years, Mr. Gozlan replied:
“We have a number of new projects on our slate for the next two years including a 3-D animated feature. We are also looking to add more dramas to our slate. Prior to Beautiful Boy we mainly produced genre films such as Never Cry Werewolf or Hallowed Ground, but Beautiful Boy’s ongoing success has us looking to include more star driven dramatic features. We are also hoping to spread our wings once again in the Canadian marketplace and shoot something in Montreal this coming year."
