The surreal landscapes of the Mojave's Joshua Tree Forest and the Salton Sea provide the ultimate subjects for the sublime style of Eric Merrell.
Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) July 13, 2011
American Legacy Fine Arts will present a collection of stunning paintings of the almost other-worldly terrain of the Mojave Desert during the exhibition "Eric Merrell: Romance of the West - and the Western Spirit," which will be on view at the private art gallery in Pasadena from July 16 to August 13, 2011.
A reception with the artist will be held on the opening day of the exhibition from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The 33-year-old Merrell created this body of work, comprised of 40 still life and landscape paintings that showcase the rugged, yet provocative, sensitivity of the American West, during his 2009 summer residency in Joshua Tree National Forest, near the California-Mexico border. The paintings were previously on view during a successful ten-week exhibition at the Forbes Galleries in New York City in 2010.
“The surreal landscapes of the Mojave's Joshua Tree Forest and the Salton Sea provide the ultimate subjects for the sublime style of Eric Merrell,” remarked ALFA Director Elaine Adams. “His high-key color values project the intensity of the bright sunlight reflecting off the hot desert sand, and are in sharp contrast to the shades of cool blue hues in his nocturnes that convey the sudden drop in temperature that occurs in the cold desert evening,” added Adams.
