Wei Tai has been participating in Thunderbird Artists' season shows for over a decade, from the Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival in November through to the Arizona Fine Art EXPO, January through April. Tai arrived to America in 1991, since that time he has found his rightful place among the leading Chinese artists of his generation.
Wei Tai was born in a rural village south of Shanghai, China. His father was a reverend sculptor in their homeland and taught his son both sculpting and painting techniques. TAI went on to graduate from the Shanghai Fine Art Institute where he was also an assistant professor of Art and Fashion design in Shanghai College. The artist served as the Chief Designer for the China Silk Corporation for seven years, which allowed him to travel to Western European countries and become exposed to different cultures. These experiences gave birth to his longing for new expressions in art.
In 1991, Wei Tai immigrated to America as an "Extraordinary citizen" and settled in Phoenix, Arizona, where his sister, an acclaimed concert violist was living. The colorful Southwest and its rich history gave him endless inspiration. He is captivated by landscapes, cowboys, American Indians and horses, and by America Southwest history. WEI TAI spent eighteen years developing his style of East meets west impressionism, creating a brand new look in Southwest painting. His favorite Artists: Sargent, Sorolla, Cezanne, Charles Russell, Blumenschein and Terpning.
Wei Tai is a member of The Portrait Society of America, Western Artist of America and a member of Oil Painters of America. His paintings and sculptures are currently held in many prestigious private and public collections. The artist has had one-man shows and group exhibitions: Shanghai, Tokyo, Milan, Cologne, Amsterdam, The Russell C.M. Museum, Phippen Museum, Arizona Fine Art EXPO, Scottsdale AZ.
