"We're thrilled to launch what we believe to be the most robust and engaging web application for tobacco cessation on the market today."
- Dr. Jennifer Lovejoy, Vice President of Clinical Development, Alere Wellbeing
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) July 08, 2011
Alere Wellbeing, Inc., formerly Free & Clear, Inc., today announced the release of a new, fully featured web application designed to guide smokers and smokeless tobacco users through an interactive process of quitting tobacco, with the support of integrated phone- or web-based coaching.
"The Quit For Life® Program follows the United States Public Health Service’s Clinical Practice Guidelines, which recommend a combination of counseling and medication support," said Ken Wassum, Associate Director of Clinical Development and former President of the Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use Dependence (ATTUD). "We are known for our evidence-based phone coaching, but it is exciting now to have a new web application that delivers knowledge, behavioral strategies, and cognitive skills to participants with the same standards of excellence we strive for over the phone."
The new Web Coach®, which represents a complete replacement of the existing application, boasts a redesigned interface and offers users an enhanced experience. With the support of a Quit Coach® over the phone, live chat, or email, tobacco users can create personalized Quitting Plans structured around the five key behaviors we recommend for a successful quit: Set a Quit Date, Choose Medications, Conquer Urges, Control your Environment, and Get Social Support. Tobacco users can then follow those plans as they go through the quitting process with the help of rich online tracking tools, social support, and interactive learning content.
"Web Coach empowers tobacco users to be successful at quitting through engaging, motivating features and content that are seamlessly integrated with phone- and/or web-based support from our highly trained Quit Coaches," said Dr. Jennifer Lovejoy, Vice President of Clinical Development. "We're thrilled to launch what we believe to be the most robust and engaging web application for tobacco cessation on the market today."
Web Coach features a personalized home page that adjusts according to the quit status of the user and a microsite that includes a variety of e-lessons, articles, worksheets, and videos. It also features an exclusive community with groups, live chat, and discussion forums that are actively moderated by our Quit Coaches. A variety of tracking tools on the application help motivate users both pre- and post-quit with calculations that measure cost savings, free time added, and number of fresh breaths since quitting.
Web Coach was developed with extensive user testing and research on the effectiveness of integrated modalities in a tobacco cessation program. “Our published research has demonstrated that phone- and web-based services could be successfully integrated to help tobacco users quit and that greater utilization of services, either phone or web, was associated with increased quit outcomes,” said Dr. Susan Zbikowski, Vice President of Clinical and Behavioral Sciences.
