http://www.Happyhomefront.net is a new, free online resource and community for “Geographically Challenged” families being launched in July. The website has coined the term “Geographically Challenged” families to describe families that have one member that travels extensively for work (e.g. military families, families of commercial pilots ). These absences can mean a spouse, mother or father is away from their family a week, months or even a year at a time. An absent family member brings unique functional, emotional, and financial challenges to a family. To succeed and strive these families need support.

Unfortunately, many industries and employers do not offer information and resources (family support) for these types of families. In addition, many of these jobs require a move away from family and friends making the need for a support network that much greater. Specific industries that http://www.happyhomefront.net is providing content for include: military, commercial fishing, trucking, railroad, oil/gas/mining, airline, tourism and hospitality, sports/entertainment, and the frequent business traveler.

Happyhomefront.net is the creation of a military wife and a pilot’s wife who realized, despite their husbands’ different occupations, that their situations had more similarities than differences. For those family members at home these separations can be stressful, lonely and challenging. “We often feel isolated and that no one, despite how much they try can truly understand this lifestyle, unless of course they have experienced it first hand themselves.” Happy Homefront hopes to harness the collective knowledge and experiences of families to provide information and support to each other.
