On June 1, 2011, Energy Management Resources (EMR) launched its new Business Intelligence system referred to as EnergyExpress. This technology advancement was designed to provide EMR and their clients with access to more information on energy costs and usage. According to Darrel Palmer, President of EMR, converting raw data into valuable information is a critical part of a client’s overall energy management. “We are now able to drill down into the massive amounts of data that we receive on our clients energy bills and convert that data into meaningful information to help us manage their energy costs.“
“The key reason for utilizing processes, like those employed in business activity monitoring and business intelligence, is to be able to make informed and intelligent decisions regarding the way your company manages its energy procurement and use,” said Paul Van Erem, Director of National Sales and Marketing. “Compiling a company’s energy use, such as natural gas and electricity, is the first step toward good energy management. EnergyExpress allows us to monitor that data based on regional and national market fluctuations to provide more efficient energy strategies, which will lend our clients a more competitive edge. Also, many of our clients are struggling with GHG emission reporting,” said Van Erem. “With EnergyExpress will be able to export the required natural gas and electricity data for input into a carbon management reporting system with ease.”
“EMR built its state of the art data warehouse around an IBM Cognos reporting platform which allows us to develop better reports, dashboards and scorecards for our clients,” said Terry Hummel, EnergyExpress project manager at EMR. “After a diligent search, we chose the IBM Cognos reporting platform because it allowed us to build our data warehouse from our existing data source, while bringing us the ability to interact, search and assemble all perspectives of a client’s energy data.”
