Metacafe and Strike.TV announced today that “Dwelling” was voted as the winning original Web series in the ‘MetaVote' contest, which generated more than six million video views in one month’s time. The contest introduced seven original Web series from award-winning TV and screenwriters, such as the writers of “The Office,” “Die Hard” and “Malcolm in the Middle” to Metacafe’s audience of 12 million . Viewers were invited to vote for their favorite show and “Dwelling” received 34 percent of audience votes. As a winner of the contest, “Dwelling,” will be awarded a second season exclusively on Metacafe, supported by a sponsoring brand advertiser who may be integrated into the show’s content.
“MetaVote demonstrates the power of short-form video entertainment and consumers’ desire to see more made-for-the-Web original series from Hollywood talent,” said Steven Horn, VP of programming at Metacafe. “One of our marketing partners now has the opportunity to closely align with “Dwelling,” a series that has already proven exceptionally popular with our influential audience of young male “entertainment drivers” who often define breakout hits in the entertainment world.”
“Dwelling” is written and directed by Anthony Q. Farrell, writer of NBC’s “The Office” and three-time Writer's Guild Award nominee. It is the story of three roommates who willingly share a house, but unwillingly share their lives. The ‘MetaVote’ channel showcasing this winning series is live at http://www.metacafe.com/metavote.
“Bringing “Dwelling” to life on the Web is one of the most fun and rewarding projects I’ve ever worked on and the new episodes will hopefully be even more innovative and entertaining,” said Anthony Farrell, writer and director of the winning series. "It’s an honor to win the MetaVote program and we look forward to exceeding both viewer and sponsor expectations with a fresh batch of hilarity.”
Talent included in the ‘MetaVote’ contest was selected from Strike.TV, which is focused on leveraging the talent of proven writers with TV and movie successes. In addition to “Dwelling,” other highly-entertaining original short-form shows in the contest included, “Unknown Sender,” “Coma, Period,” “Let’s Get Laid,” “Daryl from OnCar,” “Hildy Hildy” and “B-Rock.”
“We’re thrilled with Metacafe’s support, forward-thinking and aggressive marketing and promotion of our various Web series. During the month-long contest, Metacafe's daily promotion across its site and social channels created a really positive buzz which drew large audience numbers that rival traditional TV,” said Peter Hyoguchi, co-founder and CEO of Strike.TV. “With this magical combination of talented, professional creators like Anthony Farrell and the powerful marketing muscle of Metacafe we are seeing the birth of a sustainable Internet television industry. We plan to continue providing high quality, original Web series programming to this ever-growing audience of passionate entertainment enthusiasts."
