Stressed the importance of planning and simulating numerous scenarios before committing to a course of action.

LLamasoft President and CEO Don Hicks commented, “This was the first ever conference dedicated to the art and practice of Supply Chain Design as a critical business process.

More than 100 business executives from 12 countries representing 60 companies from around the globe gathered in Ann Arbor Michigan to discuss supply chain design. LLamasoft, the leading vendor of supply chain design and predictive analytics software and solutions, hosted the event.

The ability for organizations to design supply chains that are cost effective, flexible, sustainable, and risk averse has become an imperative given continued global expansion, volatility of commodity prices, uncertainty of supplies, and demanding customer service standards. Companies that do this process well are more competitive and return significantly higher shareholder value.

Astronaut moonwalker Dr. Buzz Aldrin delivered the keynote address, which chronicled his famed Apollo 11 mission that landed the first humans on the moon. He stressed the importance of planning and simulating numerous scenarios before committing to a course of action. His audience—executives that manage multi-million dollar supply chains—were nodding in agreement.

Also delivering keynote addresses were author and supply chain expert, Dr. John Gattorna, and cognitive psychologist Dr. Bruce Hood presenting on the science behind decision making. Other presenters included executives from AT Kearney, ConocoPhillips, Dow Corning, Giant Eagle, Glanbia, Intel, ModusLink, Spinnaker Management Group and Univar.

LLamasoft President and CEO Don Hicks commented, “This was the first ever conference dedicated to the art and practice of Supply Chain Design as a critical business process. In times of change, volatility, risk, and competitive pressure, Supply Chain Design is not just ‘nice to have’, companies that fail to build this capability will fall behind and possibly die. Companies that succeed will grow and thrive in even more challenging environments in the future. It’s that simple.”

Hicks added, “LLamasoft is honored to play a role by bringing together top companies and supply chain thinkers in order to share best practices. We’re clearly just getting started, and we’ve already announced dates for next year’s conference, which will be bigger and better—a true cannot miss event.”
