While employment was slightly down in May, we saw a bit of an uptick in June likely due to seasonal hires.

CheckPoint HR, the trusted ally in web-based Human Resources management for small to mid-sized companies, today reports that employment for small to medium sized businesses in the Tri-State area saw an increase of 1.2% for a 14.4% annual growth rate in the month of June.
According to CheckPoint HR’s data, there was an increase in employment during the month of June, likely due to seasonal employment. In previous months, CheckPoint HR saw an increase in on-boarding activities and it seems as though those hires began receiving payroll in June. In April, CheckPoint HR reported that it had noticed an influx of growth related activities including but not limited to job placements, background checks, W-4 and I-9 processing.
“We still see a lot of instability in regards to employment within the small to medium sized business market,” said Neil Friedman, CFO, CheckPoint HR. “While employment was slightly down in May, we saw a bit of an uptick in June likely due to seasonal hires. From an employment perspective, CheckPoint HR has not seen a full recovery from the recent economic downturn.”
As a result of the slow recovery, State unemployment funds continue to be in a weakened position pushing unemployment taxes to the highest levels. States, such as New Jersey, are taking steps to lessen these taxes in an effort to provide aid to local businesses with new legislation that cuts unemployment insurance tax rates on employers during fiscal years 2012 and 2013.
