Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that Lexicomp was selected as a 2011 Crain’s Leading EDGE Award winning company by the Entrepreneurs EDGE for the fourth time. The award recognizes the top middle-market, value-driven companies in Northeast Ohio.

Lexicomp is a leading provider of medical information and clinical content solutions for the healthcare industry. They provide the tools necessary to help improve patient safety, ensure compliance, and elevate the quality of care patients receive. In May, Lexicomp was acquired by Wolters Kluwer Health. The acquisition is the latest in a series of strategic acquisitions Wolters Kluwer Health has made in its Clinical Solutions business as part of the company’s strong focus on the point-of-care market.

The selection process is based on each company’s earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) added to their total taxable compensation for employees living in Northeast Ohio’s 17 counties. The award-winning companies for 2011 have sales revenue up to $750 million and currently sell some of their goods or services outside the region.

Lexicomp’s role as a leading provider of point-of-care drug information continues to grow in Northeast Ohio and throughout the nation. In the past year, more than 350 hospitals have made the switch to Lexicomp, including the US Military Health System (31,000 clinicians at over 260 military treatment facilities), Adventist Health System (33 hospitals), Catholic Health Partners (31 hospitals) and Alberta Health Services (98 hospitals).

Lexicomp was recognized at the Crain’s Leading EDGE Award reception and dinner at Cleveland State University’s Student Center on May 18.

The Entrepreneurs EDGE is planning a year-long series of events for the honored companies to bring like-minded CEOs and presidents together to help them further grow their businesses through group management meetings, networking events and educational speaking engagements.

Wolters Kluwer Health’s Clinical Solutions business unit provides evidence-based medical content, workflow-based applications software and services that allow clinicians to efficiently and effectively diagnose and document patient care. Key brands ProVation Medical, UpToDate®, Medi-Span®, Facts & Comparisons®, Lexicomp, Pharmacy OneSource® and Medicom (China) lead in market segments that include drug information, disease information, clinical patient order sets, clinical documentation and hospital pharmacy productivity applications.
