Omaha, NE (PRWEB) July 13, 2011
On July 7, 2011, a grand-opening event was held for the Urology Cancer Center and GU Research Network, located in Omaha, NE. The Urology Cancer Center is the Midwest region’s only center dedicated exclusively to the treatment and research of prostate and urologic cancers.
The Urology Cancer Center offers state of the art cancer care, combined with national research studies and drug trials which provide treatment options for all stages of prostate and urologic cancers. Urologic cancers account for nearly one in four cancers in the United States and one in 10 cancer deaths.
Dr. Luke Nordquist, M.D., F.A.C.P, CEO of the center, is a urologic medical oncologist with a world-class background from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Nordquist's team actively pursues and participates in the most advanced treatments available through a national network of research partners including major cancer centers, universities and pharmaceutical companies.
“Promising new drugs are only made available to a select number of centers around the country,” said Dr. Nordquist. “We proactively network with drug developers and research organizations to ensure that we are that center with the latest treatments. I lost my father to cancer, so I understand the profound impact it has on patients and their families. We strive to keep patients knowledgeable about their disease and treatment options so they can make the best decisions possible. We share a passion here to provide outstanding support and care.”
The center brings together the expertise of the region's urologic cancer specialists for surgery, radiation, targeted treatments, vaccinations, chemotherapy and the latest advances in the treatment of prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancers. Dr. Nordquist is an expert panel member for the development of National Prostate Cancer Treatment Guidelines.
“Even if you live a great distance from Omaha, we routinely work as a partner with your local cancer team to provide expert guidance,” said Dr. Nordquist. “We realize that there is no ‘one-size fits all’ when it comes to the treatment of these cancers and that each patient is an individual.”
This innovative care center also houses supportive components to offer the highest level of patient care. It is the headquarters for CancerOpinions.com which provides worldwide expert second opinions for all types of cancer and YourTeam Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit organization which aligns community volunteers to help meet the daily needs of cancer patients and their families.
The Urology Cancer Center is located at 17607 Gold Plaza (176th and West Center Road) in Omaha. To contact the center call (402) 991-8468 or visit http://www.gucancer.com.
