Frightened Cellar’s debut solo album “Destroy The Fear That Forms You” is a living newborn organism, emanating sonic emotions from the moment it cracked itself free from the skull of songwriter James Wilson. Minimalist acoustic arrangements give the songs a nostalgic, almost anthem-like quality, a stark contrast to the auto-tuned electronic artists of the previous decade. Scheduled for release on August 16th, the self-produced work boasts an impressive collection of visa stamps having been recorded in the Japanese countryside, a Brooklyn church and Manhattan’s famed Metropolitan Opera House and mixed and mastered in London. The work was successfully funded by his fans through Kickstarter, and was mixed by engineer Marcel Van Limbeek (Tori Amos, Johnny Cash, Damien Rice).
Frightened Cellar is the stage persona birthed by singer/songwriter/pianist James Wilson. Originally from rural Iowa, Frightened moved to Brooklyn after graduating from music school with a degree in piano performance. His musical style is influenced by artists from diverse range of genres including; Beethoven, David Bowie, Nina Simone, Tom Waits, Phillip Glass, and Nick Cave.
“Destroy The Fear That Forms You is a collection of songs that I wrote as a letter to myself,” says Frightened. “I had spent too much time letting fear dictate the decisions I made in my life. While this album is very personal, I believe that most everyone can relate to the music because the songs deal with very raw emotions that we all experience at some point.” The album also features mezzo-soprano Jessica Kimple on the track “Rather Be Here”. Plans for a video series and tour are currently underway. The album will be available globally through all major digital retailers including iTunes and Amazon. CDs will be available at live performances and select record stores throughout the US.
