Fail-over is built-in, since the NodeBalancer infrastructure monitors the health of your back-end Linodes, and automatically takes unhealthy nodes out of rotation.

Linode, a leading provider of cloud infrastructure services, today announced the immediate availability of its managed cloud-based Load-Balancing-as-a-Service (LBaaS) offering - NodeBalancer. Now any Linode customer can balance incoming requests across their Linode cloud instances to achieve greater availability and fault tolerance.
Linode's new load balancing service monitors the real-time health and connection load of each server instance to intelligently distribute incoming requests. In the event of a node failure, health checks actively remove nodes from rotation to ensure uninterrupted availability. Additionally, since NodeBalancer constantly monitors the connection load of each server and distributes new requests to the least-loaded nodes in the pool, the risks associated with unexpected traffic spikes are more manageable for system administrators.
"NodeBalancer allows our customers to scale their applications and services horizontally. Additional back-end Linodes can easily be added with a few clicks, or can be automated using the Linode API," said Christopher Aker, founder and chief executive officer of Linode. "Those new Linodes can then be added into rotation, providing true resource scaling on demand. It's also a very convenient setup since a node can be taken out of rotation to perform maintenance, upgrades, or deploy new code, whilst the remaining in-rotation nodes carry the load."
NodeBalancer is available to Linode customers for $19.95/month. For more information about NodeBalancers, visit http://www.linode.com/nodebalancers.
