Union Street Papery, a San Francisco invitation, card and gift boutique, has responded to the growing demand for inspired and unique wedding stationery by opening an elegant bungalow where busy brides can let their creativity flow.

Union Street Papery’s new and expanded location, at 2166 Union Street, is in a historic former carriage house where staff designers help couples fashion stationery that reflects their personalities and stories.

The new bungalow’s atmosphere is soothing and sumptuous, an elegant mix of antique and modern furnishings and chandeliers. Bridal parties can relax on couches, sip champagne and pour over hundreds of invitation designs.

“We really wanted to improve the experience for brides,” said Stacey Bush, Union Street Papery owner for 11 years. “We are extremely hands on, taking the time to get to know the couples, their story, and convey that through their invitation and stationery.”

Stacey and her staff take pride in their design and etiquette expertise and are passionate about the look and feel of their products. Paper is not dead, said Stacey, who believes the biggest industry trend could be the return of traditional stationery.

“The experience of receiving a personalized piece of mail is so much more meaningful in this era of Evites, ecards and emails,” said Stacey, who has been in the industry 26 years. “You receive so many electronic messages that some get lost or ignored. People are tired of not connecting.”

Industry experts agree there is renewed excitement about tradition, thanks in part to the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.

The Union Street Papery’s new location formerly served as a carriage house when the Cow Hollow neighborhood was 19th century pastureland. The carriages parked in the courtyard downstairs, where Union Street Papery’s gift and greeting card shop is now located. And horses were boarded upstairs, now the new bridal bungalow. The neighborhood has evolved into a posh shopping and dining district with many offerings for brides.

Union Street Papery, established in 1985, is the ultimate boutique destination for fashionable and elegant stationery design in the San Francisco Bay Area. The shop has developed an international following among event planners and paper lovers everywhere, seeking the latest in custom designed wedding invitations, save the dates, savvy personalized stationery, distinctive party invitations, baby announcements and holiday cards. Union Street Papery also delights in its artfully curated selection of charming greeting cards, personalized gifts, stylish wrapping paper and ribbon.
