Select Safety Sales Adds the New Faucet Mounted Haws eyePOD™ to their product line of eyewash stations. This new product functions as a standard faucet and turns into an ANSI compliant eyewash by simply rotating the front of the unit.

Select Safety Sales, LLC announced today that it has recently added the Haws eyePOD™ to it's eyewash station product line. This new product is a low cost aesthetically pleasing faucet mounted eyewash. It is perfect for medical offices and laboratories because it is small and compact and will fit in perfectly with any décor. The unit functions as a standard faucet and a simple rotation of the front of the eyePOD™ turns it into an ANSI compliant eyewash. The eyePOD™ is simple to install. This unit has industry standard adapters that are included with the purchase of the unit that can be used with almost any standard faucet.

Eyewash Stations are essential when chemicals or contaminants can accidentally enter the eye of a worker in the workplace. OHSA requires the use of eyewash stations and emergency showers and stipulates “Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use” {29 CFR 1910.151 (c). The ANSI/ISEA Z358.1-2009 standard guides industry in the proper selection and installation of the equipment in order to meet OSHA’s requirements. There are several types of eyewash stations that can be installed in a facility. Plumbed units are connected directly to the water supply in a workplace and require plumbing to install to a water line and drain. Portable Eyewash Stations are generally 9 to 21 gallon plastic containers that mount on a wall and operate by adding potable water and an 8 oz. bottle of bacteriostatic solution as a preservative. Medical offices and laboratories might not have the wall space for these larger units, and in order to be OSHA compliant, a faucet- mounted ANSI eyewash offers protection to workers in these facilities.

Emergency Eyewash Requirements stipulate the proper use of emergency equipment. In order to be ANSI compliant, an eyewash station must provide a full fifteen minutes of continuous flushing with the valves of the unit staying open without the use of the hands. In addition, the temperature of the flushing fluid must be between 60 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The Haws eyePOD™ has a thermostatic mixing valve directly built into the unit to automatically shut off the water if the temperature were to go above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. This prevents any further damage to the eye if the water is too hot. The water automatically turns back on once the water falls within an acceptable range.

This new Axion MSR™ technology by the Haws Corporation does not allow the contaminants to flow into the nasal cavity and lacrimal punctum while being flushed from the eyes. The flow of the flushing fluid flows outward instead of inward. It helps to deter the harmful particles from being inhaled or ingested by the victim during the emergency.
