Leading mobile application developer Handmark today announced its social apps business and mobile ad services group will become a wholly owned subsidiary.

Spurred by its success in the social media applications space, leading mobile application developer Handmark today announced its social apps business and mobile ad services group will become a wholly owned subsidiary.

Officially launching later this month, the new company will focus on socially-powered apps that give mobile users the tools to curate and interact with the social channels and content they care about. It will continue to build and captivate a wide audience across multiple operating systems, and provide effective monetization opportunities for developers. Evan Conway, Handmark’s executive vice president of marketing and product development, has been named president of the new company.

The strategic move represents the company’s strong confidence in the continued growth of the business that has attracted more than 3 million users to its popular social applications, TweetCaster for Twitter and FriendCaster for Facebook. Both applications are top-rated apps on Android and iOS devices.

“We’ve seen firsthand the explosive growth at the intersection of social networking and mobile,” said Paul Reddick, CEO of Handmark. “The subsidiary is in recognition of the team’s innovative spirit and its firm grasp of what matters to the increasing number of people who use mobile devices to connect with their social world. Additionally, this team has the proven ability to effectively monetize mobile audiences.”

While Handmark will continue to partner with companies to provide unique mobile application solutions, the new company will assume ownership of TweetCaster and FriendCaster, and the ad services group. Major advances are planned for the two social apps, including rich new features and expansion to other major smartphone and tablet platforms. The new company also will introduce a suite of innovative new products that go well beyond current social networks. These products will be actively monetized by the ad services group, which also supports other third-party developers.

“The new company brings together an amazing group of mobile and social experts, who created the top third-party Twitter and Facebook apps,” said Evan Conway. “It’s exciting to leverage our success and create brand new experiences from the wealth of social and crowd-sourced content in the marketplace.”
