“We’re proud to support the MLB and Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” said Joe Furuhata, “Phiten and our official athletes view this as a vitally important cause for so many people and we hope to be part of these efforts long term.”

Phiten®, the innovator and original maker of the titanium necklace and precious metal-infused wellness products, announced that thousands of dollars were raised by partners for the Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer program benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. Major League Baseball hosted an online auction at MLB.com that generated funds for the program through the sale of Mother’s Day 2011 items donated by MLB players, which included Phiten Pink Ribbon products.
The MLB concluded its auction on June 29th and raised just over $40K from Mother’s Day items donated by MLB players that were worn during Mother’s Day games. On Mother’s Day 2011 (May 8), hundreds of MLB players and on-field personnel demonstrated their support for the Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer program by using pink bats during games, wearing symbolic pink ribbons on uniforms, and donning pink wrist bands as well as Phiten Pink Ribbon products.
Phiten created a limited number of X30 Pink Ribbon necklaces for MLB players to officially wear on the field during the 2011 Mother’s Day games. These necklaces were auctioned to the public by MLB. Phiten athletes who donated their X30 Pink Ribbon necklace for the auction included Cliff Lee (Philadelphia Phillies), Justin Morneau (Minnesota Twins), Justin Verlander (Detroit Tigers) and Joba Chamberlain (New York Yankees). Cliff Lee’s X30 necklace was one of the more popular single auction items drawing a winning bid of $510.
Additionally, Phiten made identical X30 Pink Ribbon necklaces as well as an accompanying S-type Pink Ribbon bracelet available for purchase at http://www.PhitenUSA.com. The company donated $1 for each item purchased by fans to contribute to the total funds raised for the Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer program.
“We’re proud to support the MLB and Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” said Joe Furuhata, PR and Marketing Manager of Phiten USA. “Phiten and our official athletes view this as a vitally important cause for so many people and we hope to be part of these efforts long term.”

Major League Baseball Health Initiatives

Other initiatives include Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), whose mission is to support the groundbreaking scientific research aimed at getting new cancer treatments to patients in an accelerated timeframe; the annual Father’s Day celebration, in support of Prostate Cancer Foundation, which helps increase awareness of prostate cancer and raise money for the search for a cure; and Play Sun Smart, a league-wide, skin cancer awareness program in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Players Association and the American Academy of Dermatology.
About Susan G. Komen for the Cure®
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure®, we have invested nearly $1.5 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
