Version 7.3 enables mobile app users to securely access real-time critical data outside of wireless coverage.

Pyxis Mobile, provider of the only mobile application development platform designed to meet today’s constantly changing business needs, announced today the launch of version 7.3 of the Pyxis Mobile platform. The latest release delivers enhanced offline capability that provides users of mobile apps built on Pyxis Mobile’s platform with the ability to access all of their critical data in real-time when outside of wireless coverage areas and delivers significant enhancements to each of the supported device clients.

“A critical factor in the mobile application development process is to create apps that provide users with an optimal user experience, where they’re not concerned about losing network coverage and being unable to access critical information,” said Todd Christy, CTO and President of Pyxis Mobile. “By extending our platform’s offline capabilities, we’re not only enabling our customers to build the most advanced cross-device mobile applications on the market, but we’re also helping them increase the adoption and utilization rates of their apps through the allowance of offline usage.”

Pyxis Mobile 7.3 offers extended offline capabilities via the addition of an entity based caching feature, which provides administrators complete control over what data is synchronized and enhances the company’s current real-time caching model, allowing for synchronization of critical offline data (e.g. contacts, opportunities, products) with real-time retrieval of very large or changing data (e.g. news, weather, market information). Users now have the ability to create or edit records when disconnected from the network that are automatically updated when the user is back online. To ensure enterprise-grade security, the local data on the device is encrypted at all times.

Driven by growing demand from Pyxis Mobile customers, the new feature enables the company to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving mobile application development market. According to Gartner Inc.’s April 2011 Magic Quadrant for Mobile Enterprise Application Platforms (MEAPs) report, MEAP vendors will need to provide support for disconnected (offline) application functionality for the categories of devices it focuses on, and preferably some form of rich client or thin client for others. Offline access can include partial (cached) or full access to application data. Gartner Inc. expects that by 2013, partial or cached support will become the main technique for MEAPs.
Other features in Pyxis Mobile 7.3 include:

  •     Cross-device client-side scripting: allows users to design complex business rules
  •     List builder: enables mobile apps to capture complex groups of repetitive data
  •     Configurable list headers: allows the Application Studio administrator to configure a header row on all list screens
  •     On-device administration: provides end-users with increased insight into the status of data sent to the back-end systems
  •     Various enhanced Android, iOS, and BlackBerry capabilities: media caching, pull to refresh, universal search, etc.

These features are configured once in Application Studio, with no coding or compilation, and available immediately across all supported smartphones and tablets. Pyxis Mobile 7.3 is available now for new purchases or existing customer upgrades. Please contact Pyxis Mobile at 781.997.0300 or through the website at
