Billy Porter, MAEd, has been appointed to lead an experienced team of teachers and learning specialists at Stone Mountain School for boys with ADHD and learning differences.

New academic director, Billy Porter, MAEd, joins the accomplished teaching staff at Stone Mountain School, a North Carolina therapeutic boarding school for boys with ADHD and learning differences.

As academic director at Stone Mountain School, Mr. Porter has set lofty goals, including enhanced staff training and partnerships with national organizations such as the National Center for Learning Disabilities and the Learning Disabilities Institute.

“North Carolina has the highest percentage of ADHD-diagnosed male adolescents in the U.S., with roughly one in seven students struggling with ADHD or a learning disability,” said Mr. Porter. “At Stone Mountain, we have the opportunity not only to change lives but also the way our society approaches learning differences.”

Mr. Porter holds a master‘s degree in Education and has taught in a wide variety of settings, serving students and families with a myriad of unique needs. His diverse background includes military service, training children for a Rock School scholarship program, work as an archaeological field technician for the State of Oregon, and a position as academic director at Wellspring Academy of the Carolinas.

He was attracted to Stone Mountain School because of the many challenges and rewards of working with youth with learning differences.
