We felt it was important to take the next step and not only demonstrate our commitment towards sustainability, but provide an example for other dental offices to follow.
Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) July 15, 2011
Aesthetic Dentistry of Scottsdale (ADS) is the first dental office in Arizona to register for LEED Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Dr. Edward Miller and Dr. Michael Kelly of ADS are internationally-respected educators and practitioners in the field of aesthetic dentistry. Having earned a reputation for continuously raising the bar for dentists, Dr. Miller and Dr. Kelly consistently provide the highest quality patient care and utilize innovative techniques for creating healthy, beautiful smiles. Further, demonstrating the doctors’ commitment to the community and the environment, ADS has become the first dental office in Arizona to pursue LEED Gold certification.
What is LEED?
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is an independent 3rd party certification developed by the USGBC and administered by the Green Building Certification Institute. LEED certification demonstrates the company’s social responsibility and commitment to environmental stewardship. Some of the many benefits of earning LEED certification include: conserving energy and water; protecting natural resources; developing healthier and safer facilities for occupants; reducing waste sent to landfills; and, reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions. LEED Certification has become the standard by which all buildings and facilities are now evaluated. There are currently four LEED certification levels: LEED certified; LEED silver; LEED gold; and, LEED platinum.
The LEED Certification Process
ADS began the LEED certification process by enlisting the expertise of GreenWise Strategies, LLC (GreenWise), a Scottsdale consulting firm which specializes in LEED certification, sustainability planning and energy conservation. ADS had previously implemented several “sustainable” policies and procedures throughout its operations. “We felt it was important to take the next step and not only demonstrate our commitment towards sustainability, but provide an example for other dental offices to follow,” said Dr. Miller. The first step for GreenWise was to conduct a LEED feasibility analysis of the facility to determine its eligibility and estimate the costs to pursue the required credits. Once the decision was made to pursue LEED certification, GreenWise began working with ADS staff to fulfill the credit requirements and begin the journey towards achieving LEED certification.
