Another record summer with Heathrow?

We’re working hard to make sure people’s summer holidays get off to a flying start this year.

Heathrow is gearing up for another record summer with an estimated 13.7 million passengers set to pass through its doors this July and August.

To ensure people’s holidays start at Heathrow, the biggest gateway to the UK is pulling out all the stops with a raft of new initiatives and services to ensure a smooth and stress-free journey.

Here are Heathrow’s top ten tips and services for the great summer holiday:

1.    PARKING
Book Heathrow airport parking online ahead of your holiday and enjoy substantial savings, with no hidden charges - prices start around £6 per day for two weeks when booked in advance

2.    HEATHROW APP & TWITTER
Download Heathrow’s mobile app and get live updates straight to your smartphone as well as airport maps, destination guides, five day weather forecasts and long stay car parking booking. Passengers can also follow Heathrow on Twitter (twitter.com/HeathrowAirport) for the latest travel information and deals

3.    SECURITY
Confused about what you can and can't carry in your hand baggage? To ensure you get through security without a hitch, download Heathrow’s security leaflet which gives passengers all the information they need prior to departure. Plus in July and August Heathrow is creating dedicated family lanes

4.    RESERVE & COLLECT
No time to shop before you fly? Now you can reserve everything from formula milk, shoes, perfume and the latest technology via Heathrow’s Reserve & Collect service and collect your purchases once you are through security

5.    SHOP & COLLECT
Love pre-flight shopping but hate struggling with the extra bags? Buy before you fly with Shop & Collect and pick up your shopping upon your return (when travelling within the EU)

6.    ORDER CURRENCY ONLINE
Foreign Exchange just got easier – order your currency online and pick up from a Travelex store at Heathrow before you depart. It’s 0% commission and you can compare prices against all of the top providers. And if you didn’t get a chance to pre-order you can still get 65 currencies available for immediate collection from 5am to 10pm seven days a week

7.    BOOK INTO A LOUNGE
Book into one of Heathrow’s lounges online and get your holiday off to a flying start with VIP treatment in a tranquil setting. There’s the Servisair Executive lounge in Terminal 1 and 3 and 4Deck Lounge in Terminal 4. Also due to open its doors this August is No 1 Heathrow, a lounge in Terminal 3 boasting sumptuous lounge spaces, bedrooms and a travel spa

8.    JOURNEY TEAM
Got a query? Speak to one of our friendly, multi-lingual Journey Team staff who will be able to advise on everything from finding the pharmacy to the best place to eat – they are easily spotted by the purple blazers they wear

9.    WORLDPOINTS
The card that rewards your airport shopping! Sign up to the WorldPoints Card scheme and earn points on all airport purchases, redeemable for a range of rewards including BA Miles, Luftansa’s Miles and More rewards and airport shopping vouchers

10.    RELAX
Fancy some pampering before your flight? Book into Heathrow’s Be Relax Spa and enjoy a range of rejuvenating treatments from massages to facials as well as manicures, pedicures and waxes. Passengers in Terminal 1 can relax and unwind at World Duty Free’s Cocoon Beauty Sanctuary, home to both new brands and premium skin-care and well-being products including Dr Sebagh, This Works, Dr Hauschka, Decleor, Dermalogica and REN

As part of Heathrow’s commitment to making every journey better this summer the airport is also:

  •     Strengthening its operation and customer service teams with additional staff – from check-in and security to baggage reclaim
  •     Opening dedicated ‘family lanes’ in security
  •     Rolling out play areas for kids across all its terminals to give children the opportunity to stretch their limbs and expend some energy prior to getting on the plane
  •     Hiring children’s entertainers and characters such as Mr. Men favourite Little Miss Sunshine on the busiest days in July and August
  •     Giving away free activity books and Cadbury’s jelly sweets to keep little ones occupied and entertained
  •     Serving up ‘kids eat free’ deals and ‘speedy service’ meals for passengers on the go

John Holland-Kaye, Commercial Director at Heathrow said: “We’re working hard to make sure people’s summer holidays get off to a flying start this year. We know that family holidays take a lot of planning, so have laid on a number of initiatives to take the hard work out of passengers’ travel to, through and from the airport, in an ongoing effort to make every journey better this summer”
