New Smartphone App Empowers NYC Taxi Passengers

Report A Taxi (http://www.reportataxi.com) is a FREE app that allows passengers to sound off against bad cabbies. In just five quick steps, riders can report poor service to Taxi and Limousine Commission

Whether a local or a tourist, seemingly everyone has a nightmare NYC taxi story. Although hailing a NYC cab is generally quick and easy, like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates, “You never know what you're gonna get!” It’s a decision that will determine whether you get to your destination safely, comfortably and without getting ripped off.

Mobile partners Y INTERACT (http://www.yinteract.com) and Elyxor (http://www.elyxor.com) have teamed up to create Report A Taxi (http://www.reportataxi.com), a free smartphone app for iPhone, and coming soon to Android and BlackBerry, that provides commuters the opportunity to hold bad cabbies accountable for their poor service and praise those who make their ride enjoyable and stress free.

“Born and raised in Manhattan, I’ve taken many cabs in my lifetime, and experienced both fantastic and horrible drivers” says Ahmed Yearwood, Owner & Founder of Y INTERACT. “Report A Taxi provides a quick and easy way for New Yorkers to voice their opinion on a cabbie’s service right from their phone. Even from the back of the cab! It’s a convenience we’ve never had with taxis, unlike other goods and service providers, like retail outlets and restaurants.”

Travelers can commend (Praise an Angel), or condemn (R.A.T. Report), their cabbie, in just five quick steps:

1.    Enter the driver’s medallion number, or take a photo of the number
2.    Choose from a selection of known issues (e.g. Using cell phone, refused credit card) or enter their own
3.    Select the date and time of the incident
4.    Choose from a map, or enter an address, where the incident occurred
5.    Review and SUBMIT!

After SUBMIT, passengers can share their experience via Facebook and Twitter to provide others with information that will help make their time in the city a safer, cheaper and overall better experience.

The information will be sent to the Report A Taxi team who will review it for submission to the Taxi & Limousine Commission so appropriate action can be taken. Initially launching in New York City, there are plans to expand the app into other cities as well.

"The app really takes advantage of what mobile is all about – to capture the moment in real time as it's happening on any smartphone.” says Mark Carleo, President and Founder of Elyxor. “Our objective is to make riding a taxi a more pleasant experience for all passengers.”
