Portland, OR (PRWEB) July 16, 2011
Oregon Hot Tub, a Hot Spring Spas, dealer with stores in Portland, Beaverton, Bend, Clackamas and Vancouver, WA is supporting Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month by providing free spa test soaks in all their 5 locations.
Juvenile arthritis (JA) is an umbrella term used to describe the many autoimmune and inflammatory conditions that can develop in children ages 16 and younger. According to the Arthritis Foundation, juvenile arthritis is one of the most common diseases in children, with almost 300,000 in the United States diagnosed with the debilitating illness.
“Many children suffer from this very painful disease longer than they have to because arthritis is usually thought of as a problem only for older adults,” says Sue Rogers, owner of Oregon Hot Tub. “Parents and other caregivers should be aware of what to look for because JA can have serious, even life-threatening impact on a young child.
"When joint pain, swelling or stiffness occurs in one or more joints for at least six weeks, it may be an early signal of a serious, inflammatory rheumatic disease that requires immediate medical treatment to prevent permanent joint damage," says Arthritis Foundation Vice President of Public Health, Dr. Patience White.
According to Dave Doornink, marketing manager, “hot tub immersion helps to relieve the pressure off of sore joints. In fact, the buoyancy of the water reduces body weight by almost 90% giving the body a well-deserved break from stiff and sore joints and muscles.” In addition, the swirling action from spa jets help to massage stiff muscles loosening up the body and promoting relaxation. All of these aspects combined make it easier for someone with arthritis to move more freely,” continued Doornink.
“We think Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month is the perfect time to help educate the public on how effective warm water hydrotherapy can be in relieving the symptoms of JA. That’s why Oregon Hot Tub will provide free hot tub test soaks in all five of our locations during the entire month,” said Doornink.
“We certainly recommend that parents speak to their doctors first before deciding on how to treat JA, but if your doctor approves of hydrotherapy, we recommend that parents just call us ahead of time to schedule their free 30-minute soak so they can check out the benefits for themselves.”
