Heathrow is putting families at the heart of its business to ensure passengers travelling during the great summer getaway enjoy a smooth and stress-free journey.

The biggest gateway to the UK, which is expecting more than 13.6 million passengers to pass through its doors this July and August, has launched a raft of family friendly initiatives to improve the experience for parents travelling with children.

SECURITY
To help ensure families get through the airport without a hitch Heathrow will be opening dedicated ‘family lanes’ to make passing through security much easier, whilst extra baggage staff will be on hand to make sure luggage gets from plane to car in the quickest possible time.

A downloadable airport security leaflet will also give parents all the advice they need prior to departure.

KIDS’ ENTERTAINMENT
Back by popular demand, the pre-flight play area that proved a hit in Terminal 5 during the Easter holidays, is being rolled out to all terminals to give children the opportunity to stretch their limbs and expend some energy prior to getting on the plane.

Mr. Men favourite Little Miss Sunshine will also be brightening up the terminals and making guest appearances on the busiest days in July and August whilst Heathrow staff will be giving away free activity books and Cadbury’s jelly sweets to keep little ones occupied and entertained.

SERVICES & OFFERS
Selected restaurants including Est and Café Rouge in Terminal 1, Three bells in Terminal 3, Dining Street in Terminal 4 and Huxleys in Terminal 5 will also be serving up ‘kids eat free’ deals and ‘speedy service’ options, whilst parents can use the Reserve & Collect service to order baby milk. For the first time, passengers can also phone as well as email their requests to the Reserve & Collect team.

As always, passengers can get in touch with Heathrow via twitter (twitter.com/HeathrowAirport) and from the beginning of July can take advantage of the new and improved Heathrow mobile app, which features an airport travel planner, city guides, five day weather forecasts, Heathrow long stay parking booking, flight information and terminal maps.

John Holland-Kaye, Commercial Director at Heathrow said: “We’re doing everything we can this summer to make sure family journeys through Heathrow are as smooth as possible. We know that kids can get a little over-excited at the airport, so we have laid on a number of initiatives to help them expend that energy in the best possible way – and to make sure that Mum and Dad get to enjoy themselves too.”
