PLS, Western Union Join Forces on Donation to Chicago’s United Neighborhood Organization

For 27 years, Chicago’s United Neighborhood Organization (UNO) has promoted education and job training in Chicago’s Hispanic neighborhoods. UNO seeks to build grassroots leadership within the neighborhoods to address local issues such as street violence, the dropout rate and overcrowding in schools.

UNO challenges neighborhood residents to get involved and contribute to the advancement of their community. The organization brings a no-nonsense approach to public action and leadership training, partnering with parishes in working-class neighborhoods like South Chicago, Little Village and Back of the Yards.

“UNO is a force for unity and progress,” notes Wolfberg. “We’re proud to support their good work. When we mentioned their mission to the Western Union Foundation, they agreed—and are matching our contribution.”

Doubling the donation through the Western Union Foundation

PLS had planned to make a $5,000 charitable donation to UNO—an amount that doubled when the company invited the Western Union Foundation to get involved.

The Western Union Foundation’s “Agent Giving Circles” program assists Western Union Agents in supporting their local communities. PLS received dollar-for-dollar matching funds for its contribution to UNO, for a combined total of $10,000.

“PLS has been very active in the community, and we were glad to learn of their support for UNO,” noted Rob Koewler, Director of Strategic Accounts for Western Union.
