The Granting Dreams Foundation, which grants tomorrow's dreams today for those 19 and older who have a life-threatening medical condition, was proud to help Doster make her dream of publishing a children’s book come true.

Books are written for many reasons: to educate, to illuminate, to entertain. Sometimes, books are written to leave a lasting legacy; to make a difference. The Lizard in the Laundry (published by WestBow Press), a new children’s book by Mitzi Doster, is one such book. Now fighting her second bout with breast cancer, Doster wishes to make sure her words endure.

Three brothers – Ricky, Robby and Rossie – rush to help their mother with the laundry when she discovers a hitchhiker: a small lizard in the laundry basket. They also find a turtle in a box, a sock full of rocks, and a hamster in the hamper in this rhyming-verse adventure, but it will take an observant reader to learn how the lizard got inside in the first place.

Doster was inspired to write during her first chemotherapy treatments. Her nephews – the inspiration for the boys in the book – enjoyed her story so much she wrote it down and printed copies for her family. That experience prompted her to look for ways to make an impactful difference with a new book, and that looking led her to the Granting Dreams Foundation and the publishing company, Thomas Nelson.

The Granting Dreams Foundation, which grants tomorrow's dreams today for those 19 and older who have a life-threatening medical condition, was proud to help Doster make her dream of publishing a children’s book come true. The foundation was also humbled by her wish to donate a portion of the proceeds from The Lizard in the Laundry to helping the organization make hundreds of other dreams come true. Thomas Nelson, the world’s premier Christian publisher, was excited to be involved. “We were very pleased to help make one wish come true, especially when this one wish has the potential to grant hundreds or thousands more,” said Pete Nikolai, Director of Publishing Services at Thomas Nelson.

A recurring bout with breast cancer prompted her to do something to make a bigger impact with her life. Her desire to leave a literary legacy that will continue to help and encourage others was fulfilled when the Granting Dreams Foundation teamed up with Thomas Nelson to publish her book.
