Summer means grilling season, and it is a great time to try new beverages that enhance outdoor culinary favorites. Shallow Ford Wine Trail combines grilling tasty foods and exceptional Yadkin Valley wine with friends during the Summer Grill Wine and Dine on Friday, July 22.

“Summer is a great time to try new Yadkin Valley wines with some of your favorite grilled foods,” explains Gene Renegar, owner of Allison Oaks Vineyards. “Wine will complement almost anything you can cook over a fire.”

The Shallow Ford Wine Trail is comprised of five wineries in Yadkinville and Mocksville, all which are located in the Yadkin Valley American Viticulture Area (AVA). The wineries include Allison Oaks Vineyards, Brandon Hills Vineyard, Hanover Park Vineyard, Misty Creek Vineyards, and Uptown Wine and Gallery.

The key to great wine and food pairings is to select the correct combination. For this event, each winery is handpicking a wine that complements the flavor of a particular food item hot off the grill.

“At Allison Oaks, we are featuring barbecue chicken and our chardonnay, but every winery has something different,” says Renegar. “We like to give out written recipes along with everything that we fix.”

Other planned wine and food pairings include pinot grigio with chili lime shrimp at Brandon Hills Vineyard, Michael’s Blend (a blend of cabernet franc and merlot) with grilled steak and orzo salad at Hanover Park Vineyard, merlot with beef brisket at Misty Creek Vineyards, and traminette with barbecue pork sliders at Uptown Wine and Gallery.

The Summer Grill Wine and Dine will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. at each of the Shallow Ford Wine Trail wineries on July 22. Tickets are $25 and include a wine glass, a taste of wine, and a dish prepared with that wine in mind. Ticket holders must be 21 years old or older.

To purchase tickets, contact any of the participating wineries by July 20 or order online at http://www.shallowfordwinetrail.com or for more info on Yadkin Valley wineries, visit yadkinvalleywineblog.com.
