CompoClay partners with the City of Alameda and the Greater Alameda Business Association (GABA) to recreate the signs at Alameda’s Historic Train Stations. On Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 5:30 p.m., the first of the seven new green signs will be unveiled at the Willow Station, located at Willow Street and Lincoln Avenue. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this celebration.

The painted wooden signs at Alameda's train stations were installed nearly two decades ago.

Contributing to this project means so much to me, both personally and professionally. I was born and raised on this island and fascinated by those train stations growing up.

The painted wooden signs at Alameda’s train stations, located at seven of the City’s ten stations, were installed nearly two decades ago. Ten years later, the signs began showing wear and tear. All were taken down and refurbished, which proved to be an expensive and timely undertaking. Within the past year, the signs once again began to wear. Rather than refurbish the wooden signs again, city staff and GABA looked for an alternative.

While the search was taking place, CompoClay established its United States headquarters in Alameda, located at 2536 Santa Clara Avenue. CompoClay is an eco-friendly material, mainly made of minerals, water and sand. It has the ability to emulate everything from wood and metal to concrete and pottery without sacrificing safety and durability. CompoClay is extremely weather-resistant, withstanding both moisture and UV radiation, which made it the perfect alternative to the existing wooden Station signs. And the added bonus, it’s green!

Andy Choi, CompoClay CEO and Alameda native, could not be more thrilled. “Contributing to this project means so much to me, both personally and professionally. I was born and raised on this island and fascinated by those train stations growing up. Now, they’re made from CompoClay! That’s just amazing.”
