On Saturday and Sunday, July 23rd & 24th , at Laemmle's Sunset 5, the film “ROAR”, will have its first screening in the United States. The showing will begin at 11:00am followed by a Q & A with some of the cast and crew.

A Timeless Family Adventure.

Tippi Hedren, and her Academy Award Nominated daughter and co-star, Melanie Griffith, star in the most amazing film with big cats ever made.

ROAR is a film about Hank, a zoologist, who lives in a beautiful house on an African lake with 150 of the world’s greatest carnivores: lions, tigers, leopards, cheetahs, cougars and jaguars. Hanks wife Madelaine (Tippi Hedren) and their teenage children-two sons and a daughter (Melanie Griffith), are coming to stay with him. Hank is sure his family will love living with the lions as much as he does, yet the experience does not play out as he expected, and Madeline and the children must struggle to survive in a world suddenly gone crazy with cats.

The making of ROAR spanned a period of more than 10 years, including 5 years of principal photography. It involved the remarkable talents of a crew of more than 100 dedicated men and women, as well as the participation of more than 150 untrained lions, tigers, leopards and cheetahs. The real life Marshall family (Tippi, Melanie, Noel and sons John and Jerry) had to live with the 150 lions, tigers, leopards, etc. to make this film possible. That was not the plan in the beginning. Originally, Tippi and Noel came up with the idea of making a movie with lions after a trip to Africa. They planned on simply “renting” Hollywood trained lions. They interviewed many cats and their trainers. They were told the only way to make a film like they wanted to was to get a few of their own.

ROAR was released world wide in 1981 but never released in the USA until this special premiere screening on July 23rd & 24th. Please visit the film’s website for more information and additional screening dates at
