“VitalSource® is an established e-content platform in use at 6,000 campuses around the world,” said Kent Freeman, President, Vital Source Technologies, Inc.
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) July 19, 2011
Vital Source Technologies, Inc., Ingram Content Group’s leading e-textbook solution for publishers, academic institutions, and students, today announced an agreement with Minha Biblioteca, a digital content consortium created by four of Brazil’s largest scientific, technical, and medical (STM) publishers. Vital Source will provide e-textbook management and distribution for the consortium.
“As the demand for digital content grows and enrollment in higher-ed institutions continues to climb dramatically in the region, with a 50% projected increase by 2015, our collaborative content efforts will make a meaningful impact in the education community,” said Richardt Feller, Director of Minha Biblioteca. “Ingram’s track-record in physical and digital content distribution, paired with their expertise in the e-textbook space, provides us with solid and scalable tools to give students and institutions access to relevant digital content that can be used in both the classroom and remote learning environments.”
Minha Biblioteca brings together content from leading STM publishers Editora Atlas, Grupo A Editoras, GEN – Grupo Editorial Nacional and Editora Saraiva. At launch, over 4,000 e-textbooks and other popular titles will be available to students and institutions from the consortium. Vital Source, the largest e-textbook distribution company in use today, with 1.6 million registered users and a presence on 6,000 campuses in 180 countries, will provide comprehensive options for content distribution. With Vital Source as backend support, customers of the consortium can easily access content via download, online or mobile options including popular iPad™, iPhone®, and iPod Touch® devices.
“VitalSource® is an established e-content platform in use at 6,000 campuses around the world,” said Kent Freeman, President, Vital Source Technologies, Inc. “We are pleased to be working with this prominent group of education publishers and look forward to putting the power of Ingram behind the consortium to connect even more students, educators and institutions with relevant, new content they need to succeed.”
In addition to the newest publishers from Brazil, VitalSource currently delivers tens of thousands of titles from the world’s leading textbook publishers, including Elsevier, Pearson, Cengage, Macmillan, John Wiley and Sons, McGraw-Hill, Wolters Kluwer, Oxford University Press, Taylor & Francis, and many others to users worldwide.
The agreement with Minha Biblioteca follows Vital Source’s recent June 2011 acquisition of VPG Integrated Media, a leading developer of award-winning enhanced e-textbook applications, interactive learning objects and e-whiteboard content, and state-of-the-art video, audio, and animation production services for educational publishers. Together, VPG and Vital Source create an unmatched e-textbook offering that meets the demands of publishers, educators, and students in this new era of learning opportunities.
