Waltham, MA (PRWEB) July 20, 2011
A recent survey conducted by Pyxis Mobile, provider of the only cross-device mobile application development platform designed to meet customers’ constantly changing needs, found that a high level of security and the ability to quickly and easily make ongoing changes to their mobile applications are features that IT professionals consider priorities when seeking a mobile app development tool.
Survey respondents included CIOs, CTOs, IT directors/managers, systems and network administrators, programmers and technology support, as well as Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council (MassTLC) members and attendees at the Oracle Application User Group Forum – Collaborate 11. The survey was also distributed via Pyxis Mobile’s social networking outlets.
A vast majority of survey respondents (77%) agreed that security is an important factor in choosing a mobile application development tool. Additionally, 71% of respondents confirmed that a tool’s ability to allow users to make ongoing changes to applications in real-time was critical when evaluating the different mobile technologies that are available. Other factors that play a significant role in the IT decision-making process were a tool’s ability to provide rapid app development and deployment, unlimited data integration capabilities enabling apps to connect to any back-end enterprise system, and extensive design features allowing users to build visually appealing apps with a rich UI/UX.
“The widespread adoption of mobile devices in the enterprise has created an increased pressure on IT departments to deliver secure mobile applications to their employees and customers,” said Steven Levy, CEO of Pyxis Mobile. “As this market matures and more development options emerge, IT professionals are faced with an increasingly difficult challenge of choosing a solution that is not only secure, but also enables them to take full control of their mobile initiatives. Pyxis Mobile platform’s agility and flexibility has enabled thousands of companies to do just that.”
Additional survey findings include:
- 91% of respondents believe that their department or company could benefit from the use of mobile applications. Of those, 60% view business intelligence apps as providing the most value, while internal operations and resource management (29%) were ranked second, and sales/CRM and field service apps are viewed as equally beneficial, at 26% each. Seventeen percent of respondents believe consumer facing apps used for marketing and/or mobile commerce purposes would also be beneficial to their company.
- Tablets are gaining an increasing level of acceptance in the enterprise. Thirty-three percent of respondents confirmed that their company currently supports or plans to support the iPad, while 14% say that Android tablets will soon be entering the hands of their workforce.
- Twenty-seven percent of respondents work for companies that sell software to businesses or consumers. Of those, 70% offer a mobile version of this software or plan to within the next 12 months.
