Japanese company rebuilds manufacturing operations with the use of durable and hygenic plastic containers from Macro Plastics.

Hideki Amatake, CEO of Amatake Japan thanks Wendell Smith, VP of Sales, Macro Plastics for Plastic Container Donation.

"Macro Plastics is committed to helping communities where we can take an active part in promoting corporate social responsibility," Wendell Smith, VP of Sales, Macro Plastics.

On June 28th 2011, Macro Plastics donated reuseable packaging containers to Amatake, an Ofunato-based food production company which suffered severe damage from the March 11, 2011 tsunami and earthquake. Amatake is Japan’s largest chicken broiler with over 500 employees. The disaster took the lives of 10 employees with damages estimated at over 400 million dollars. Their entire facility was under 10 feet of water.

“As a company we feel strongly about giving support to stricken areas. Macro Plastics is committed to helping communities where we can take an active part in promoting corporate social responsibility. Our products are hygienic and safe for the storing and transporting of food and liquid products. We hope the bins can be put to good use and help in the recovery in Tohoku,” commented Wendell Smith, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Macro Plastics.

The donated containers include the Alpal and ShuttleBin collapsible bins which will be used within the Amatake factory for transportation and storage purposes. At the time of the donation, there was still no running water at the plant so the Alpals, which store liquid, will be used for cleaning purposes. The containers will also allow the employees to return to work sooner rather than later and in turn, provide for their families.

At the ceremony, Mr. Hideo Amatake, Chairman of Amatake commented, “We are extremely grateful to have such a donation towards our recovery activities from the earthquake and tsunami. Macro containers will be put to good use. It is also excellent timing as we will reopen our factory on July 1, 2011 and we don’t have enough containers so we are very grateful to Macro Plastics.”
