Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) July 19, 2011
Local sustainability is a hot topic these days. With the steady rise in gas prices and a national drought prompting fears about where your future meals might come from, many are turning to growing their own food, roadside stands and the local farmer’s market. On Wednesday, July 20, Elise Johnson of Cooking with Elise will join North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall at the Raleigh Farmer’s Market for a shopping trip, focusing on choosing items for a menu item that Ms. Johnson and Secretary Marshall will cook together. At the close of the shopping trip, Ms. Johnson and Secretary Marshall will return to Ms. Johnson’s home and cook and exchange their two favorite recipes, using the ingredients purchased at the Farmer’s Market. Ms. Johnson will share the two recipes on her blog, http://www.cookingwithelise.com.
Secretary Marshall states that “Supporting our local producers is one of the most positive actions we can take for our own well-being and for the economic well-being of local growers. Healthy eating and a healthy economy for local producers go hand in hand.”
Agreeing with Secretary Marshall wholeheartedly, Ms. Johnson’s cooking focuses on using fresh, locally grown ingredients and cooking with family, commenting “I love visiting the Farmer’s Market because on any given day, I hear the sound of children, see an array of colors, taste a fresh sugar snap pea or a beautiful heirloom tomato, smell potted plants and flowers, and feel the strong sense of community. It is at the Farmer’s Market that we are connected to our local farmers and their families as we support them and help to strengthen our community; it’s a win-win for everyone!”
Ms. Johnson’s time spent at the Farmer’s Market has allowed her to develop relationships with the local farmers and the Market Manager, Ronnie Best of the North Carolina Agriculture and Consumer Services Department. “We are extremely happy to have Cooking with Elise filming a segment of the show here at the State Farmer’s Market.” states Mr. Best, “Having Secretary of State Elaine Marshall here with her is an added treat. This is the time of year that “Got to Be NC” has special meaning. The market is full of local grown North Carolina produce and the North Carolina farmers that work so hard to bring local grown produce to the market. We look forward to seeing Secretary of State Marshall’s recipe and the finished product from a day of shopping at The State Farmers Market.”
The shopping trip to the Farmer’s Market will begin at 10 am on Wednesday, July 20.
About Cooking With Elise
Elise Johnson is a veteran homeschooling mom who somewhere along the way realized that people had forgotten how much fun it was to have fun and cook with your family. Her love of fresh food led her to start her blog, cookingwithelise.com, so she could share how a family can make time to cook together. Elise has volunteered her services to such organizations as the American Heart Association and has spent time teaching children with cerebral palsy how they can help in the kitchen.
