...we look forward to participating in future FCC auctions as part of our spectrum acquisition strategies.

The Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) Auction 92 commenced on July 19, 2011. The licenses auctioned were previously offered in FCC Auction 73 in 2008, and remained unsold or were not paid for by the winning bidder(s). These licenses are located in the 700 MHz Band, which was previously occupied by television broadcast stations. When TV broadcasters transitioned from analog to digital technology, these licenses were made available for commercial and public service use.

After much anticipation, Big Wave Ventures successfully bid on three 12 MHz licenses in Wheeling WV-OH, Lubbock, TX, and RSA Virginia 1, Lee. “Whenever you enter an auction, you want to have a strategy in place with a backup plan in case you are outbid for your desired markets,” said Shawn Downs, Director of Mergers and Acquisitions at Smartcomm. “During the auction, we focused our efforts on the top two US markets, Lubbock, TX and Wheeling WV-OH. Our strategy worked as planned and we were able to bid successfully on the markets we sought.”

Smartcomm, LLC, a company that specializes in opportunities to acquire spectrum in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz and 900 MHz bands for mobile broadband services, formed License Acquisitions, LLC in 2008. “We’re very pleased with the end result of this auction,” says Carole Downs, Smartcomm CEO and President of License Acquisitions “and we look forward to participating in future FCC auctions as part of our spectrum acquisition strategies.”
