Conservation authority, acclaimed marine artist and Chairman of Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts announced today the appointment of Michael Weber as General Manager of the Bimini Big Game Club, a Guy Harvey Outpost Resort. “Mike brings a new dimension in leadership to this legendary property,” Guy Harvey commented in announcing the selection”. In drawing comparisons between running a research vessel and a hotel, Dr. Harvey added “When I’m involved with an offshore expedition, I want a captain who not only has a perfect balance of experience and skills required for a safe and successful voyage, but a captain who commands the respect of his crew . I’m extremely pleased to say we have all of that with Mike. He’ll be a great captain for Big Game Club, its Outpost crew and all of her guests.”
Mark Ellert, President of Guy Harvey Outpost and the driving force behind the company’s development efforts added , “With Mike’s background we have a General Manager who understands that a Guy Harvey Outpost is about creating a unique, memorable and consistently high quality experience . That requires a healthy dose of multi tasking and 24/7 dedication to delivering personalized service common to the best of hotels”.
Most recently GM of the Our Lucaya Beach Resort complex on Grand Bahama Island, Mr. Weber has held similar positions in notable boutique hotels throughout Florida and the Caribbean. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, and holds dual US and Swiss citizenship.
“Mike’s up to speed with doing business in the islands. I speak for our entire Guy Harvey Outpost staff when I say we’re excited about having him on board at Outpost Bimini” noted Mr. Ellert in confirming that the appointment is effective immediately. “Mike wears on his sleeve his passion for fishing, diving and dreams of building a retirement home on Andros where he and his wife own property,” added Guy Harvey . “He may not be far from Andros but fortunately he’s a long way from retirement!” Harvey joked in noting Weber’s decision to take on the GM role at the Bimini Big Game Club.
Dr. Harvey co-founded Outpost with Mr. Ellert and two of his other long time associates to promote sustainable tourism. With his legions fans in Florida and the Southeast, the company settled on converting the Bimini Big Game Club into a Guy Harvey Outpost Resort owing to its history as the birthplace of sport fishing, its world renowned diving and its convenience to Florida boaters. The resort has 51 rooms, 65 slips and the popular Bimini Big Game Bar & Grill overlooking the resort’s marina.
