The technologically savvy sales team at Briggs Buick GMC knows that OnStar is very popular with all types of drivers. As the premiere GM dealership in Manhattan, Kansas, they have great insight to all of the latest and greatest technology available, including the new OnStar mobile application for smartphones.

On July 15, 2011, OnStar renamed the OnStar MyLink mobile app to OnStar RemoteLink. Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac have used OnStar technology to launch mobile apps for many 2010 and most 2011 vehicles, with 2012 model year vehicles to follow.

The over 130,000 current users of the OnStar app will receive a notification on their Smartphone. Depending on their preferences, the update will be automatic or will require them to accept the update.

OnStar is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors. They are the leading provider of connected safety and security solutions, value-added mobility services and advanced information technology on modern vehicles of all types. They currently work with over 40 models.

The Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac smartphone apps use OnStar RemoteLink’s unique connection to the vehicle, providing drivers with up-to-date vehicle information such as oil level, tire pressure, fuel level and even the lifetime mpg number.

The app has been downloaded almost 400,000 times in North America alone and has accumulated more than 3.5 million service interactions since its start in 2010. OnStar expects to expand compatibility and functionality of the app in the near future.

OnStar soon will be available for installation on most other vehicles already on the road through local electronics retailers, including Best Buy. The OnStar Mobile App was a recipient of the 2011 Edison Award for Best New Product in the Remote Driving Aids segment. Additionally, OnStar Stolen Vehicle Slowdown is a recipient of the 2010 Edison Award for Best New Product in the Technology segment. Both are great honors.

Local residents who want to learn more about OnStar or GM in general should stop by Briggs Buick GMC - the premiere Manhattan GM dealership and surrounding areas. Their sales staff can answer any questions consumers might have as well as show them how the OnStar app works with their smartphone.
