While displaying XOvivo’s jewelry at the January NYIGF, Michael Choi was asked to participate in an exciting exhibition at Bruce Museum in Connecticut. He did not think twice; he is excited to take part in the showing of jewelry history with his jewelry made with alternative materials. He is honored to be able to represent along with other jewelry artists he respects.
Bijoux: The Origins and Impact of Jewelry investigates the wide range of materials used to make jewelry, from bones and fossils, to diamonds and CZs. Bijoux explores the ingenuity of artists to create adornment from a host of materials, from the common to the sublime. It delves into the genesis of these natural materials and explores the economic and environmental impact of our universal attraction to sparkle. Bijoux is a celebration of human nature and our ability to adapt. The exhibit opened on July 16, 2011, and will run until March 11, 2012.
Michael is eager to show two lines XOgreen and XOcandy at this exhibit. The XOgreen series features three distinctly designed and forged lines, all of which are intended to enhance a woman’s wardrobe while also demonstrating commitment to a cause she holds dear: Caring for Mother Earth. “This line is dedicated to all those who do what they can to keep the environment beautiful and healthy,” he says, “When recycled aluminum pieces are formed in the studio through bending, flattening, and hammering, what’s produced is jewelry with beautiful patterns reflecting light from multiple angles.”
The XOcandy line features brilliant yet graceful colors of translucent soft resin, imported from Italy. This jewelry material is widely known in Europe, and now is being introduced in the USA. Michael designs this line “with the vibrant and upbeat nature of women in mind. Bold and definitive angles are mended together to show the vital connection of her mind, body, and soul.” The jewelry blends in with the her skin, outfit colors, and lighting to accentuate her beauty for any occasion. These pieces are accented with freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals, silver and gold plated metallic forms, semi-precious stones, Venetian glass, and other rare beads.
“Capture the essence of beauty in all things, real or imagined, and you are a visionary. Express the essence through a tangible medium that becomes a part of you, and you are an artist. Every one of us is an artist one way or another longing for others to relate to our choices of expression." - Michael Choi, Designer & Maker of XOvivo.
