Bonterra Solar, a solar power design and installation company, recently completed a commercial solar hot water installation at the Emil Brown Lofts, a multi-use property located in downtown Los Angeles.
The project is comprised of SunEarth solar hot water collectors and is installed on the roof of the property. By using the sun to pre-heat the building’s water, the system will significantly reduce the property’s operating costs and provide substantial savings over the next 25 years. Along with the yearly energy savings, the property should also see a large increase in value based on the savings associated with the solar system.
Bonterra’s solar system was one of the first of its kind installed in Los Angeles since the mid 1980’s and is part of the state’s push towards a more sustainable future. “We were excited to have been a part of such a landmark installation,” said Blair Herbert, a Principal with Bonterra Solar. “As one of the first solar hot water systems installed under the new CSI-thermal rebate program, we hope that this system will accelerate the use of solar power in the greater Los Angeles area.”
The solar hot water system was made possible through the recently enacted California Solar Initiative (CSI-Thermal) rebate program which provides a cash rebate towards the purchase of solar hot water system. In addition, the system was eligible for a 30% federal cash grant and is able to be fully depreciated in the first year.
Bonterra Solar, based in Manhattan Beach, CA, designs and installs residential and commercial solar systems throughout California and Hawaii. Bonterra has installed hundreds of systems and is committed to providing affordable and quality solar systems that provide financial, environmental and social benefits.
