The American Filtration and Separations Society (AFS) will hold a Technical Conference & Exhibition on October 17-20, 2011 at the Hilton Houston Westchase in Houston, TX.
There will be four plenary speakers at the conference. Two speaking on Tuesday, October 18th and two speaking on Wednesday, October 19th.

"Short-term Financial Market Risks and Long-term Secular Challenges to the Filtration and Separation Industry" Jason Schenker, President, Prestige Economics, LLC
Mr. Schenker manages the consulting projects of Prestige Economics, LLC and is responsible for writing commentary, giving external presentations, and producing economic and market forecasts. Mr. Schenker is frequently quoted by the press, including the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, and Bloomberg. Mr. Schenker regularly attends exclusive OPEC and IEF meetings, and frequently presents to central banks, governmental bodies, and industry groups. He recently appeared on the CNBC special “Beyond the Barrel.” Mr. Schenker is also a contributor to Bloomberg, Dow Jones, Reuters, and Platts Consensus surveys for economic indicators, energy, metals, and foreign exchange. He has been named one of the most accurate forecasters of U.S. non-farm payrolls, as well as crude oil, industrial metals, precious metals, aluminum, and nickel prices by Bloomberg.
Prior to founding Prestige Economics, Mr. Schenker worked for McKinsey & Company as a Risk Specialist and Senior Consultant, and earlier in Wachovia’s Corporate and Investment Bank as a Consensus-contributing economist using the functional titles of Economist, International Economist, Chief Energy Economist, and Commodity Economist.
Mr. Schenker holds a Bachelor’s with distinction in History and German from UVA, an MA in German from UNC Chapel Hill, and an MA in Applied Economics from UNC Greensboro. He has also earned the professional designations of ChFC® (Chartered Financial Consultant) ERP® (Energy Risk Professional), and CFP® (Certified Financial Planner).
"The Role of Membrane in Energy Today and Future" Professor Kuo-lun Tung, Director of Membrane R&D Center, Chung Yuan Christian University, Taiwan
Dr. Tung is the Director of the R&D Centre for Membrane Technology (CMT) at Chung Yuan University in Taiwan. The mission of CMT is to develop membrane technology, promote academic collaboration and enhance cooperation with the industry. It is one of few prestige Centers of Excellence in Taiwan supported by the government. CMT currently has 20 faculty members from several prominent universities and over 50 graduate students and research staff. Prof. Tung is one of the founding members of the CMT and serves as the deputy director in 2006-2009 and director since 2009.
With a solid background in filtration, Allan has been devoted to membrane research for more than 20 years with emphases in the fundamental study of membrane fouling, applications in water treatment and energy generation/preservation. Some of his patented technologies, e.g. an innovative feed spacer design for spiral wound membrane module, have been successfully transferred and implemented in varies industries.
Prof. Tung has been active in the international membrane and filtration arena. He is a member of AFS, council member of the Filtration Society in UK, on the managing committee of the Membrane Technology Specialist Group in the International Water Association (IWA), he is also the Taiwan representative and Secretary of the Asia Pacific Desalination Association (APDA).
He received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1991 and 1998 from National Taiwan University, both in Chemical Engineering. In 1999, he joined Chung Yuan University where he is currently a Full Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department.

Jose Bravo is Chief Scientist Separations for the Royal Dutch Shell group of companies. In this capacity he leads technology development efforts and advises the Shell leadership on technology and innovation. He is a Chemical Engineer, graduate degree from University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of more than 60 articles and one book on Separations Technology.

He is responsible for global sales and marketing activities focused on the energy and water sectors including oil & gas production, refining, petrochemical/chemical and polymer production, nuclear and fossil based power generation, the turbomachinery market and alternative energy production and municipal and industrial water treatment. Mr. Collins earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University and is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
