They say the way to anyone’s heart is through their stomach, and bright students at East Durham College have proven this in style!
In a move that shows that young people really are the future of professional enterprise and talent, two East Durham College Catering students were handpicked to compete in a London cook-off to show off their culinary talents.
A talented team of two were picked from over 6,500 entries to compete in an epic cook-off inspired by the forthcoming 2012 Olympic Games.
The competition is called “Get Set to Exercise Your Tastebuds” and is run by Get Set, the official Games education programme.
The talented team competed in the Further Education College’s Finals Category – the results are yet to be announced, but it was a close and valiantly fought contest.
What did the entrants have to do?
The college students travelled to London’s Westminster Kingsway College for the finals on Tuesday 12th July for the cook-off. They competed against two other talented teams from other colleges across the UK.
The entrants – Emily Johnson and Daniel Elliot (both 17) had to cook a main course that had been previously put together to provide excellent nutrition and sustenance to athletes.
They created the course with the help of Tony Parks, the College’s excellent Gym instructor.
The dish – named the “Papperdelle Le Monde Au Naturel” consisted of:
- Escalope of Turkey
- Wild Mushroom, Garden Herb and Tomato Fondue
- Pappardelle Pasta
We look forward to finding out the results of the cook-off!
