Publications aim to educate stakeholders about evidence-based care

Hayes, Inc., a woman-owned research and consulting firm that specializes in the evaluation of emerging, investigational, and changing health technologies, recently published a set of white papers and delivered these documents to key members of Congress. The white papers, which promote the integration of evidence into health-related decision making, form the foundation of a series of publications aimed at educating policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders involved in healthcare reform about evidence-based care. Three white papers are currently in print: The Value of Evidence; Accountable Care Organizations: Evidence is Essential for Success; and Regulation of Genetic Testing in the United States.

“We believe strongly that evidence-based, clinically sound processes and comparative effectiveness research will improve clinical outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and drive performance improvement under healthcare reform,” says Dr. Winifred S. Hayes, President and CEO. “The changes that we so desperately need in the U.S. healthcare system hinge, in part, on the role that evidence plays in healthcare choices, organization, and management. These changes will not be feasible unless healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public understand the importance of evidence and recognize the value it can bring to healthcare decision making.”

Senior leadership from Hayes, Inc. delivered the white papers to Capitol Hill, sharing the publications with the Congressional Health Care Innovation Task Force co-chaired by Reps. Allyson Schwartz (PA) and Kathy Castor (FL), along with Rep. Jim Gerlach (PA); Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV (WV), Senate Finance Committee, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Health; Sen. Herb Kohl (WI), Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging; and Sen. Ron Johnson (WI), Member, Senate Special Committee on Aging.
