The Camp-Tek Microburst solves the inflation problem for light weight backpacking mattress pads.
Overland Park, KS (PRWEB) July 29, 2011
Camp-Tek has launched a new product designed for inflation of ultra-light backpacking mattress pads. Using only two AAA batteries, Camp-Tek’s Microburst™ inflator eliminates the drudgery of inflation while adding little weight, even on trips that last for weeks.
The Microburst connects to a wide range of inflation nozzles, including those found on Therm-a-rest NeoAir, Big Agnes Insulated Air Core, Nemo Astro Air, Pacific Outdoor Equipment Peak Elite, and other similar sleeping pads. Also included is a special adapter for use with Stephenson’s Warmlite mattress pads. Inflation time is about the same as it would be using lung power, typically less than three minutes.
Using standard Lithium AAA cells the total unit weight is only 2.3oz, and it will inflate most mattresses more than 25 times on one set of batteries. The Microburst is practical for the most weight-conscious backpackers and lengthy trips, and is also useful for keeping moisture and contamination out of the sleeping pad. This is beneficial for all types of inflatable mattress pads, but is even more critical when using down-filled pads, since these pads can absorb moisture retaining weight and reducing effectiveness.
The Microburst measures only 2.75 inches long by 1.5 inches wide, making it a small addition to a backpack's contents. Also included is a small nylon bag with a quick-release draw string for added carrying convenience. For easy storage, the flexible output connector collapses inside the body of the unit behind a latching door. When stored this way, a switch disables the motor, preventing accidental activation when pushed into tightly packed spaces. This design assures battery availability when needed, an important feature for backpackers that are typically in remote areas.
Camp-tek was founded in 2009 by a backpacking enthusiast and is dedicated to making products that improve the over-all backpacking experience. Camp-tek’s website, http://www.camp-tek.com, contains more detailed information about the Microburst operation and design, as well as an online store.
