Houston, TX (PRWEB) July 27, 2011
A busy mother of four takes her daughter to school one morning and, as she is thinking through the busy week ahead, decides she’ll need to use the opportunity to get in a solid morning run. She is a few weeks away from running her first half marathon and has been putting in the time and dedication over the previous months in order to make sure she finishes strong. After running the perimeter of the school she starts to walk back to her car. She hears the squeal of tires and brakes trying without success to stop a truck from slamming into her.
Face down on the pavement, pain rifling through her body, she tells herself not to close her eyes for fear she will never wake. She’s in no condition to tell bystanders who to contact. Her purse, her cell phone and her ID are locked safely in a car just forty feet away, but no one on the scene knows who she is. Bleeding and barely conscious, she’s unable to give paramedics an emergency contact name and telephone number.
At the local hospital with a broken radial cap, damage to her knee, road rash, rocks embedded in her hands and face, gashes on her chin, between her eyes and behind her ear, she knows how much worse it could have been. What if she had been knocked completely unconscious? How would her family have known where she was? How long would it be before doctors would learn who she was? Who would pick her daughter up from school?
This scenario actually happened. It repeats itself over and over across the country everyday. Runners pound the pavement on roads and park trails on a daily basis without an ID, without emergency contacts and accidents happen. For this reason, Go Sport ID, launching in August 2011, is dedicated to protecting runners by creating a lightweight sport ID bracelet that includes the runner’s name and emergency contacts. More information about Go Sport ID can be found on the website (http://www.gosportid.com) and at the Go Sport ID Blog (http://www.gosportid.com/blog).
