“This week offers an opportunity to recognize and celebrate nurse practitioners and physician assistants who staff convenient care clinics." says Web Golinkin, CEO of RediClinic and president of the CCA.

The first week of August marks the second annual National Convenient Care Clinic Week, which celebrates the work of retail-based, convenient care clinics around the country and raises awareness of their accessible and cost-effective health care options. Sens. Daniel K. Inouye (D-Hawaii) and Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) introduced a Senate resolution designating the week earlier this year. Convenient Care Clinic Week coincides with the 4th Annual Retail Clinician Education Congress, co-hosted by the Convenient Care Association (CCA) and Drug Store News.

“The second National Convenient Care Clinic Week marks an increased awareness of the convenient care clinic model as an affordable and practical health care alternative for many Americans,” says Tine Hansen-Turton, executive director of the CCA, which led the effort to recognize August 1-7 as National Convenient Care Clinic Week.

Convenient care clinics operate in retail settings, such as pharmacies and grocery stores, and provide consumers with easy access to high-quality, affordable health care. Clinic operators who are members of the Convenient Care Association, which represents approximately 90 percent of the convenient care clinics in the U.S., adhere to strict quality and safety standards.

“National Convenient Care Clinic Week and the Retail Clinician Education Congress offer an opportunity to formally recognize and applaud the extraordinary efforts of the thousands of nurse practitioners and physician assistants who staff convenient care clinics. These health care professionals, along with our industry’s commitment to quality, accessibility and affordability, are why convenient care has been so successful,” says Web Golinkin, CEO of RediClinic and president of the CCA.

Today, there are more than 1,200 convenient care clinics in 35 states and Washington, DC. Clinics have served more than 15 million patients since the first locations opened in 2000.

Celebration of National Convenient Care Clinic Week coincides with the Retail Clinician Education Congress in Kissimmee, FL on August 1-3, 2011, an annual event that attracts several hundred clinicians and convenient care clinic industry leaders. The conference covers a broad range of topics of interest to retail clinicians and clinic administrators, with a focus on continuing education, new health care services, and patient care resources. An additional, emerging topic is the “collaborative care track” which highlights the important relationship between the nurse practitioner or physician assistant and the pharmacist in a retail setting, helping to bridge gaps in access and affordability for patients.

Rob Eder, Editor in Chief of Drug Store News, is enthusiastic about the new conference track. "We know the best health care in this country is provided through a team-based approach. We are excited to introduce the collaborative care track, which is a hallmark of how health care will be provided in the future," he said.
