Portland Timbers supporters are big users of their smart phones so we needed a partner like Meridian to build the unique functionality for this app.
Portland, OR (PRWEB) July 28, 2011
If the Portland Timbers are the most popular Major League Soccer team in a city that’s a hotbed for mobile development, their supporters deserve the most cutting-edge mobile app software for places available. Today, the Portland Timbers team offers their supporters Meridian, a free mobile app that provides turn-by-turn directions and other location-based services throughout JELD-WEN Field.
In addition, Meridian announces availability of its location-based apps platform for Android device users. iOS device users have enjoyed access to Meridian since launch.
Once downloaded from Apple’s App Store or the Android Market, Meridian will allow Portland Timbers supporters to use their smart phones to:
- Navigate JELD-WEN Field with turn-by-turn directions between entrances, their seat section, concessions, restrooms and more.
- Buy tickets, merchandise and other e-commerce options.
- Access fun tools specifically tailored to supporter feedback such as chant lyrics, and Twitter feeds. For iPhone users, a soundboard will replicate axe and chainsaw sounds.
- Receive concessions and public transportation information and directions.
- View maps of the stadium and surrounding areas.
- Look up information on matches and players.
While many places once settled for apps that merely offered their visitors a mobile friendly version of their web sites, the Portland Timbers team knows that their tech-savvy supporters demand more. Unlike more static mobile apps, Meridian engages users and provides them information that’s relevant to wherever they are in a location. And, because Meridian is a platform, the Portland Timbers staff can make changes to the app in seconds with Meridian’s content management system, Meridian Editor.
“Portland Timbers supporters are big users of their smart phones so we needed a partner like Meridian to build the unique functionality for this app,” said Cory Dolich, Portland Timbers’ VP of business operations and marketing. “What’s more, Meridian’s content management system will make updating the app much easier and economical than alternative approaches.”
“Smart companies know that engaging customers wherever they are is the future, and the Portland Timbers are one organization at the forefront,” said Kiyo Kubo, CEO of Meridian. “We all can’t wait to see the passionate Portland Timbers supporters put the app to the test.”
The Meridian location-based services platform was built by a team responsible for mobile apps for many popular locales including: the Smithsonian Institute, Barnes & Noble, the American Museum of Natural History, Balboa Park, Powell’s Books, and the Portland Art Museum.
