A silver Sorento CUV was the 300,000th vehicle produced at the Georgia plant, which will increase production in September.

Production goals will continue to be very aggressive.

Kia Motors America just rolled its 300,000th vehicle off the line this week at its West Point, Georgia plant. The landmark comes in the wake of news that Kia will ramp up its U.S. production in Georgia this September.

Number 300,000 was a silver Kia Sorento, the company's immensely popular crossover utility vehicle.

Kia Motors America CEO Byung Mo Ahn calls the event "another historic milestone" and says, "With three full shifts of production and the upcoming addition of the Optima, our production goals will continue to be very aggressive."

In June Kia Motors hired 1,000 new employees in order to increase production from 300,000 to 360,000 vehicles per year, bringing much-needed jobs to an ailing economy. Kia's hiring increase should help put a dent in Georgia's high unemployment rate of almost 10%.

The company says it is simply trying to keep up with soaring demand for models like Sorento and Optima. Sales continue to grow – up 44.1 percent in June – and show no signs of slowing. Kia Motors has been one of the only automakers to experience wide expansion and increased production rates since the economic decline.

Local Kia dealership, Yonkers Kia, has experienced the upswing firsthand.

"While other popular brands like Toyota and Honda slip, we are experiencing surging sales. We're outselling brands that used to have the market cornered because of our quality, value, and ability to produce vehicles in the United States without interruption," says General Manager Josh Aaronson.

Aaronson attributes the success to numerous awards, great reviews, and lots of satisfied customers.
