Schools.com recently launched a new career resource that helps match students with career paths based on their skills and interests. Pathfinder, an online multiple choice quiz of about 40 questions, gathers information about students' career goals, work habits and hobbies and presents a list of potential career paths.

A May 2011 study from Rutgers University found that 70 percent of recent college graduates reported their first job out of college was either somewhat or very related to their college major. Pathfinder allows students to start by identifying career paths that fit their skills and goals and then helps them select the relevant college major and degree level.

Pathfinder is an interactive tool that allows students to see their results change as they move through the questions. Users can also give a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" to suggested careers and edit responses to improve their results. Unlike classic personality tests, Pathfinder is composed of seemingly random questions that ask users about their favorite websites, childhood hobbies and responses to hypothetical situations. Those responses are matched to a list of over 70 personality traits, which in turn are matched to over 800 possible occupations.

Pathfinder also draws on data from the U.S. Department of Labor to give salary and employment outlook information for each career so students can make informed decisions about career paths.

In addition to Pathfinder, Schools.com offers a wide range of information for students researching career possibilities, including infographics that help students compare majors, choose a degree path or learn about their earning potential.
