The user does not have to rely on anyone to recharge the MantaroBot, allowing 24/7 access to a facility even when no one else is there.
Germantown, MD (PRWEB) August 02, 2011
Mantaro, a products and embedded product development services firm, announced the launch of its first in a suite of accessories for the MantaroBot™ TelePresence Robot, a docking station for charging. The MantaroBot which was announced in December of 2010 and started shipping to customers in Q1 of 2011 allows a user to autonomously “move around” an office or factory environment and interact with people at that location via its telepresence capabilities. The MantaroBot works with Skype to provide a comprehensive telepresence experience with the ease of use and ubiquity of availability that Skype provides. The addition of the docking station frees the remote user from needing someone to manually plug in the MantaroBot™ to its charger when the power runs low. Now the user can simply drive the MantaroBot™ into the docking station and it will automatically begin charging the internal batteries.
“The docking station gives the MantaroBot user complete autonomy to come and go as she pleases,” says Jeremy Parsons, CEO of Mantaro. “The user does not have to rely on anyone to recharge the MantaroBot, allowing 24/7 access to a facility even when no one else is there.”
As part of their commitment to continually upgrade and enhance the MantaroBot™, several other capability improvements have also been made. MantaroBots are currently shipping with wheel encoders that greatly improve the handling of the MantaroBot™ when driving. These encoders also provide the foundation for the up and coming Controller application features, which will be offered to MantaroBot customers in the near future. In addition, the latest software release includes features such as obstacle avoidance that slows the MantaroBot™ down if it detects an object or wall in its path. Also enhanced camera controls have been added that allow the user to easily pan the camera using “preset” memory buttons/keys or sliders.
In response to customer requests, the latest MantaroBot™ Controller application now includes a WiFi meter. The WiFi meter allows the remote user to monitor and ensure they are not driving the MantaroBot™ TelePresence Robot into an area with no WiFi coverage.
More MantaroBot™ features and accessories will be announced in the coming months so stay tuned.
