I got a second chance to fulfill my dream of being an accomplished singer. Each day we are given the same opportunity to realize and accomplish our dreams. We simply have to recognize it and pursue it.

After suffering a pharmaceutical error which led her to severe medical complications and fighting for her life, Dorothy Leigh a strong, determined, soulful songstress had a chance to listen to that voice within directing her to pursue her dreams in life.
Its not often in life when we are given a second chance not only to live but to realize our purpose. Through unfortunate circumstances this is what occurred in vocalist Dorothy Leigh’s life. “I was the victim of a pharmaceutical error where I almost died. I ended up in ICU with a series of serious complications, but I overcame them one by one in a fairly short period of time, based on the severity of each issue. For some time after, I wondered why I survived and what God intended for me to do. One day, I realized that I had survived so I could share my talent as a singer. I got a second chance to fulfill my dream of being an accomplished singer. Each day we are given the same opportunity to realize and accomplish our dreams. We simply have to recognize it and pursue it.”
Growing up in a musical family, Dorothy was exposed to many avenues of musicality. Her older sister sang with many musical artists and inspired her to lean toward performance. Outside of enjoying singing, Dorothy took piano and violin lessons. “I grew up in a large family. We used to sing duets and background behind each other. I loved Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Dionne Warwick and Barbra Streisand. My dream was to be an accomplished singer.”
Although Dorothy’s life took a different direction after college, she found herself working in the corporate world and singing when she could. Her debut project, entitled “A Second Chance,” captures the essence of her amazing talent reflecting emotional and spiritual depth on her life-altering journey. Working with producer Alva Nelson who composed a few of the songs, as well as arranged and contracted the musicians and background singers for the project gave her the backdrop for success. After being mentored by Juanita Fleming and Janice Robinson, Dorothy was equipped to share her story and song with the world. “Dorothy has an authentic sound all her own, a story-teller with melodic style and originality, we are proud to feature her talent to the jazz community for she has triumphed over tragedy with grace and that should be commended and reveled” says Jaijai Jackson, creator of The Jazz Network Worldwide.
With aspirations to travel the world on concert stages to intimate settings, Dorothy is ready to bring her beautiful sound to hearts of many. She’s looking forward to her upcoming release August 26th, 2011 through her record label Whitley Productions who also sponsors many of her performances.
