Humane Society of Williamson County introduces 5K Race and 1 Mile Family Fun Dog Walk.

'I can’t wait to run in this new 5K which supports the Humane Society of Williamson County! It is at a perfect time to test your fitness from the hot summer training going into Marathon season,' said Paul Williams, 8 time Boston Marathon finisher.

The Humane Society of Williamson County (HSWC) introduces an exciting fundraiser opportunity for people who love to run as much as they love puppies and kittens. The HSWC 2011 Rescue Run brings a life-saving purpose to 5K running. The 2011 Rescue Run is a simple yet powerful way to support the life-saving mission of HSWC while running a 5K race or participating in the 1 mile Family Fun Dog Walk.

“HSWC wants to challenge local runners to make running a 5K about helping to find forever homes for abandoned dogs and cats in our community. By signing up to run the 5K or participate in the 1 mile Family Fun Dog Walk participants can take part in a fun event that provides immediate financial support,” said Ron Marullo, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Williamson County. Marullo went on to say, “The 5K Rescue Run is a unique way to raise needed funds. On average it costs $200 to prepare an animal for adoption, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, food, and shelter. We recover less than half that amount through adoption fees, so we rely on generous donations from our community to keep saving lives. We are a private organization and do not receive any government funding. This race is a creative and fun way to engage our local community to help support our mission.”

As a sponsor of HSWC’s 2011 Rescue Run, Rogue Running is providing a free 6 week training camp for 5K running to any participant that signs up for the Rescue Run by August 12th.

“I can’t wait to run in this new 5K which supports the Humane Society of Williamson County! It is at a perfect time to test your fitness from the hot summer training going into Marathon season,” said Paul Williams, local runner and 8 time Boston Marathon finisher.”

The 5K Rescue Run course will begin at the entrance to the beautiful 22-acre grounds of HSWC and follow Crystal Falls Parkway to Wiley Middle School. The course travels around Rouse High School campus, back to Crystal Falls Parkway and finishes at HSWC. A 1 mile Family Fun Dog Walk will begin immediately following the 5K race. Dogs are welcome in the 1 mile walk as long as they are on a 6ft or less leash. Participants should be sure to closely observe their dog and provide them with plenty of water.

“We wanted to have a race that attracts local runners, including students and families from the Wiley and Rouse campuses and surrounding school districts. For employers, this event could serve as an excellent team building event,” said Lindsey Ortiz, Event Planner. “Registered participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal upon completion of the race. Registered participants of the 1 mile walk will receive a t-shirt as well.”

Participants can still secure spots in the HSWC 2011 5K Rescue Run to be held Saturday, September 24, 2011. Registration for the 5K race or the 1 mile Family Fun Dog Walk is open online at http://www.hswc.net/5k.
